I saw this awesome post on Facebook, and knew I had to share it with you guys.
I have so many people tell me that their lives are too busy to get it all in. “I can’t track my food because my kids are a handful”, “I can’t make it to the gym because my job is too demanding”, “I couldn’t make it to yoga because we were busy over the weekend”, “When I get home from work, I am so tired and just need to rest”. I have seriously heard it all. Not only have I heard it all, I have also used all of these excuses. My favorite used to be, “I’ve already blown it this week, I’ll just start over next week”. There is ALWAYS going to be something…ALWAYS. You have to make time for yourself.
The people who really want it (whether it be weight loss, overall fitness, more energy, mind/body connection, endurance race, etc.) work towards making time for it. I know Eco Fitness (where I work) is open from 5am-10pm…there has to be an hour in there that works. If the gym doesn’t work for you, scroll down, there is a whole blog post about how you don’t always need a gym, you can take that home workout that I posted and do it anytime. I know that work is demanding and kids can make your life crazy, but there is always someone out there that is busier or has a crazier life or has a worse situation than you do, and some of those people are still making it a priority to take care of themselves. I have to remind myself of this all the time.
I don’t have kids yet, but most of my clients, some of my friends and both of my sisters do. I have way more sympathy for the mom’s out there (what you do is HARD), but I promise there are ways that you can still make it work. It just takes a little extra planning and you might have to get creative. Get a yoga DVD, do a workout video, overhead press your toddler. Get them involved in your workout and show them the benefits of an active lifestyle. I totally understand that there are days when this is not a possibility, but wake up the next day and try again. A few of my clients put their spouses on kid duty and get their workouts in at the crack of dawn before the madness begins. Some of the amazing fit and healthy moms that I know have told me that when they make time for themselves they have more energy, are better moms, better wives, better friends, etc.
Then there are the ones that have demanding jobs. Now, I can relate to this one. I have a demading job and so do a lot of my friends. These are the same friends that I meet at the gym at 6am so we can get our workouts in. Does it suck waking up at 5am, yes! It is worth it, absolutely!! The funny part is, people don’t want to go to the gym that early because they are tired and need the rest. In reality, if they would get out of the bed and head to the gym they might actually have MORE energy. Give it a try. I have never been a morning person, but after a month or so I finally got used to it.
You deserve to feel good, you deserve to come first, you deserve to experience all the benefits that come from a healthy lifestyle…you just have to make the time for it.
