Miles and I were talking about how much our morning routine has changed in the last year. You guys, this is what we used to do when the twins were 1ish years old. Miles would wake up at 5:40 and head to our favorite high intensity interval training studio for a one hour class. I would WAKE MY TWO BABIES UP at 6:30, carry them down 2 flights of stairs half asleep because they couldn’t walk yet, load them in the car with milk and breakfast and then drive to the same studio so I could make it to the 7am class. We would switch cars and Miles would have to take the girls home and start the morning process while I worked out. I would relieve him and he would rush off to work and we would only see each other for like 2 seconds in passing. I’m proud of us for making our workouts a priority and taking care of each other by making sure that we both got to go, but holy shit…WHAT THE FUCK WERE WE THINKING!?!?!? First of all, we woke up sleeping babies…NO, JUST NO! Second of all, we started the morning in this crazy, stressed, rushed place and it took hours to recover from that. I mean, getting everyone loaded and unloaded and up and down all the stairs should have been enough of a workout in itself. Was it an incredible workout and we got to see some fun fitness friends? Absolutely, but the way we start our day is so much better now.
This is what our morning looks like now when he is not traveling. Alarm goes off at 6:15, we press snooze a few times, we are working out by 6:30, done by 7. Our big girls are allowed to come down at 7 and they usually meet us outside and finish our workout with us, which is adorable. Miles and I get to spend the morning together, not pissed or resentful or stressed out. We still get to have an incredible workout, but we get to set the tone for our day in a much better way. He helps me with “all the things” that you have to do to get 3 kids out the door to preschool and we even all get to have some time on the couch snuggling while the girls have their morning milk. Yall, what was I doing before and why it did take me so long to get board with this?!?!?! Beyond that, my workout is done before my day even starts. I can use “preschool time” in the most productive way possible and not just at the gym, and most importantly, I REALLY LIKE MY HUSBAND! There is something about our 30 minutes together in the morning that makes me feel like we are the old Erin and Miles, you know, the ones who didn’t have 3 little girls climbing all over them at all times?
I’m enrolling people for my new group this week. We start May 15th. I would love to help you make your insane life more efficient through simplified/clean/flexible nutrition, 30 minute workouts and an incredible support system of busy moms trying to get their shit together again.
