Now that I’m starting to feel like myself again, time for a new goal. Miles and I have done two sprint triathlons in the past, and we’ve decided that it’s time for another one this summer. Charleston has a really fun Sprint Triathlon Series at James Island County Park, and we are officially signed up for the race on July 29th. Here’s the website in case anyone wants to join us.

The first thing I like to do when I sign up for a race is tell everyone I know. Once everyone knows about it, I will feel like a total d-bag if I back out. It’s a great way to establish some accountability. What better way to announce it than on my blog? Now I have 1,000 followers holding me accountable. Deal? I have two race specific goals as well.
1.) Get a PR (personal record). So I need to beat my best time. Time to get on it, last time I did the race I was running a ton. I’m gonna have to hit it hard!
2.) Do the whole race in my bathing suit (sports bra and cycling shorts). I know this sounds like a weird one, but in the triathlon world, people just move from the swim straight to the bike only putting on shoes. For anyone with body image issues, that sounds like a complete nightmare! Being hunched over on a bike with only a sports bra and bike shorts on? Then getting off the bike and moving onto the run wearing hardly anything? Oh yeah, and there are photographers scattered throughout the course. Vom. Seriously, VOM! However, I’m gonna find a way to embrace it this year. I’m also gonna work hard in the meantime, getting back in shape after my surgery, getting my nutrition on point and leaning out.
Training starts tomorrow.
Anyone else doing any fun summer races?
