I’ve taken the last two days off of work because my family is in town (including my insanely adorable nephews) and we are staying in a beach house at Wild Dunes, which is about 15 minutes from our house. It’s so nice to be on vacation in our own town. Embarrassingly enough, Miles and I have yet to make it to the beach this year, so we’ve been soaking it up the past few days. Wild Dunes is special place for us because it’s where we got married almost 4 years ago. It’s also such an active place…being here would make anyone want to work out.
It’s an awesome place to train for the triathlon. We got our road bikes out of the shed and actually hit the road. After spinning 3, maybe 4 times a week, I guess I forgot the whole purpose…indoor cycling is supposed to supplement outdoor cycling! It feels so good to get out there again. We’ve also been swimming, just trying to ease back into it. Right now we are just swimming 1000 meters (which is double the amount that we have to swim in the race), and breaking it up into 100 meter increments. Considering how much strength training I’ve been doing and how much I’ve been working on my shoulders, I’m a little shocked about how fatigued my shoulders are from swimming. I love brick workouts, and they are so fun to do with someone else (especially Miles).
We’ve been trying to work out early in the morning or during my nephews’ nap time. I really don’t want to miss a thing. My nephews are 4, 2 and a half and almost 2, and they are so wild, so hilarious and COMPLETELY precious. The oldest one, Charlie, asked me all day if he could exercise with me. It broke my heart to tell him that he couldn’t go on the bike ride or swim with me today, but when we got home Miles did push ups and sit ups with him and I did yoga with him. We went through a few Sun Salutation B’s and some standing balances and he totally got it. Then, Sam, my 2 and a half year old nephew joined right in without missing a beat. I couldn’t believe how quickly they caught on. It’s kind of amazing to think that I might be able to pass my love for fitness and yoga onto them. Here’s a picture of Charlie and I doing some yoga in the deck overlooking the beach.
Im going back to work tomorrow. I’ll be sad to miss time with the fam, but I’m also ready to get back in the gym, back in my routine and back with my clients and students.
